Due to the hot weather, waste and recycling collections will start earlier than usual (from 5am) for the duration of the heatwave.

Please make sure your bins are out for collection the night before, or by 5am at the latest on your day of collection. This change is to help protect collection crews during the extreme heat.

You can check your day of collection on TMBC website at waste and recycling.

Tips for managing waste during hot weather

Higher temperatures can cause waste to deteriorate more quickly, leading to unpleasant odours and attracting pests.

Residents are encouraged to:

  • Secure food waste in compostable liners in their food waste bin.
  • If you do put any food waste into your black bin, please put in sealed bags
  • Keep bins in a shaded area where possible when not out for collection.
  • Rinse recyclable containers before placing them in recycling bins – use old dish water to save water.
  • Keep bin lids closed.
